Southern California Fun Fairs

There are plenty of cities, festivals and fairs to choose from in Southern California, whether it’s to while away the time while waiting for a business meeting or just to browse while on vacation. One of those fairs and festivals includes the Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival, which takes place from late August to early September in Lancaster. Fairgoers can expect such entertaining offerings as concerts by various famous singers and groups, car races, demolition races and “rural” Olympics. Hanford brings its residents a royal event each year, the King’s Fair which takes place in mid-July. In addition to exhibits and food stalls, King’s Fair offers tractor pulls, animal shows, talent shows, and various musical performers.

Further popularized by the hit TV show and a movie, Orange County hosts a prestigious almost month-long fair. 2007 saw a cheese-themed fair and each year the theme changes. Of course, it wouldn’t be California if there wasn’t a festival of short films from filmmakers from all over the world. Held in Madera, the Madera District Fair in early September includes, this year, a ‘Walk with Lions,’ several different rides and booths to visit, as well as many treats and foods to partake in. Probably the best known county in California is Los Angeles County, and they also host a huge fair.

The fair is only from Wednesday to Sunday throughout the month of September. There is also the International Wine and Spirits Contest, and boasts the largest classroom with a fun Educational Fair.
