Cocaine has long been viewed as one of the world’s most popular recreational drugs. In fact, it is the most commonly used illegal drug. Cocaine users do not only see its effects physically: many also see the world around them and their lives changed because of it. Cocaine users become highly irritable and agitated, often shouting and yelling, and experience short-term memory loss, increased appetite, and altered states of consciousness. These physical side effects are what make cocaine addiction such a dangerous and difficult habit to break. It also contributes greatly to the rate of death related to drug abuse.
Pure cocaine is produced in the following way: powder is made by crushing dry powder from the leaves, then grinding it into a fine powder. Pure cocaine usually comes in small portions, which are cut and snorted without having the rest of the powder. Because most street drugs are diluted to an extreme degree, pure cocaine will frequently cause fatal overdoses among users who consume their normal, recommended dosage, unaware of its increased strength. The reason for this change in appearance is due to the substance additives that have been added to the cocaine during its production. Since cocaine is made through the drying and grinding of coca leaves, the final product is a highly concentrated, viscous, and hot liquid. When pure cocaine is heated, the substance additives convert it to a harder and more viscous substance, making it harder to consume and convert it into a more addictive drug.

In Brazil, a new crop of pure cocaine has recently been discovered, called virgin cocaine. The new crop is much purer than any crop in history and can be traced in labs across the world. Due to its extreme potency, street dealers immediately began selling it as “vitamins” or “herbal stimulants.” Because it can produce such intense effects in the body, it has become a very popular illegal drug in recent years.
Because it is so highly concentrated and hotter than regular cocaine, pure cocaine users (known as “crackers”) experience intense euphoria and can be addicted to the drug. It is typically sold in powdered forms, with no label, to avoid detection. A dealer will snort the drug, hold it between his or her teeth, breathe heavily, then snort it again and sell it. Because it is so potent, it can produce serious side effects if used over a long period of time, such as respiratory failure, liver damage, heart attack, or even death. Even though the amount of pure cocaine in these pills is minimal, the potential for overdose is high.
Since pure cocaine has always been a highly profitable commodity, a significant amount of adulterated cocaine has been manufactured and distributed. With the internet and the ease of ordering online, it is easy for suppliers to sell low-grade cocaine using the same methods as the high-grade suppliers. In addition, because no quality control measures are in place to restrict the production of this drug, it is possible for unscrupulous dealers to sell it as being pure when it is not. This represents a serious problem that may endanger thousands of lives each year.
