Can contractors bid on government jobs?

There are numerous government jobs that contractors can win bids on. You have to make sure that you, as the contractor or subcontractor, qualify for the contract. To perform work on any federal government construction contract or federally assisted construction contract in excess of $2,000, they must pay their on-site workers local prevailing wages and fringe benefits paid on similar projects. The Secretary of Labor determines these salaries and fringe benefits.

The Davis-Bacon Act of 1931 laid the foundation for the requirements on how to qualify for government jobs. The first steps to becoming qualified is training and record as a government contractor.
