Robinson Crusoe – Contest between man and nature

Daniel Defoe was born in 1659 at St. Gille’s, Cripplegate in London. He was a man of many shades. These different personal traits are reflected in his literary contribution. He had carried out a numerous occupation during his life. Some of his important masterpieces such as “Essay on projects” (1698), “The true English born” (1701), “The hymn to the pillar” (1703), “Consolidator” (1705), “Appearance of Mrs. Veal “(1706),” History of the Union “(1708-09),” Reasons against the succession of the House of Hanover “(1712),” A general history of trade “(1713),” Robinson Crusoe “(1719) , “Captain Singleton” (1720), “Mole Flanders” (1722) “Rexona or the lucky mistress” (1724) and other important literary works will remain glorious throughout the centuries.

Man has control over everything except nature. But the fact is false in the case of Defoe’s “ROBINSON CRUSOE”. Defoe’s hero, Robinson Crusoe, has total control over the environment. He is an unconditional traveler. He loves exploring new and unfamiliar places. Due to his bad luck, and also to a storm, his ship has been destroyed and he reaches an unknown island. The island is not only unknown to Robinson, it is also too lonely. Robinson cannot find a single human being. He is totally confused. You feel confused due to the uncertainty of your destiny. He has no shelter, food, or clothing. He is alone. He doesn’t have a rare shadow of anyone on this lonely desert island. He finds nothing on the island to survive. He has no shelter, food, clean water, adequate clothing, and the basic elements to live a life. He is completely alone and has to face nature from now on.

Robinson cries bitterly but there is no one who can give assurance. There is no one who can provide the best comfort and warmth. But he has to survive when he reaches a desolate island. Slowly and gradually understand nature. Furthermore, nature can be interpreted as somehow playing an important role in bringing Robinson’s required maturity. Nature prepares Robinson to be a responsible man. He is a traveler, fleeing his highly protected refuge, ignoring his parents’ warning, but he never takes life so seriously.

He has been dumped on an alien island and now he really understands how difficult life is. But in the novel Nature he has been portrayed as a very polite character. Nature gives everything she has to Robinson. Robinson learns to adapt to an adverse situation. Win over hostile location. Nature makes him much more experienced, courageous and skilled. Robinson should be grateful to nature. She gives him all the essential goods to survive decently in such a strange place.

Robinson returns to the damaged ship to fetch the goods. Find cookies, rice, bread, cheese, goat meat, corn, wine, carpenter’s tools, ammunition, weapons, barrels, clothes, money and hundreds of other essential goods. You need a roof to protect it and also to keep your most wanted assets. Find a suitable place where you can store your goods. He even gets plenty of fresh water near his shelter. Start using and exploiting Nature from now on in the neighborhoods.

Nature teaches you to do many kinds of tasks. Learn to farm, bake, fence, plow, harvest, and many other agricultural tasks. He exploits nature for his own purpose and nature helps him wholeheartedly too. Robinson uses everything he has brought from the ship, but he cannot use money. As on such a desert island, you cannot buy or sell anything. Therefore, money or wealth are useless things to Robinson.

With the help of nature, it makes your personal life much more pleasant and comfortable. Has it all. Prepare the necessary furniture for your comfort, read the Bible, learn that there are two agricultural seasons, learn how to make clay utensils, and also know how to make them durable. He has goats, parrots with whom he spends his free time. You stay busy all day with many types of jobs. But it still feels isolated. Loneliness is Robinson’s biggest problem. It continues to prosper in the use of nature. He makes all the arrangements for his survival. You have full control over nature. Remain victorious in the silent battle with Nature.

Thus, in “ROBINSON CRUSOE” by Defoe, the protagonist has full power and control over Nature, that Nature that can destroy anything in a fraction of a second and that Nature that can be calm and serene at the same time.
