Massage techniques: which one is your favorite?

I am getting to know the different massage techniques. It was recently my birthday and I was given a massage voucher, which I was really looking forward to using. Being late in the afternoon, it was a perfect way to end the day, an ideal happy ending. Massage has always helped me feel relaxed, calm and sleepy.

Over the years, I have had several therapists massage me and I have noticed that they all have different massage techniques, depending on where they trained and in what field. Many professionals use massage stones now, which feels unusual, but charming and warm. Others do a sports therapy massage. I prefer the kind of loving pampering, including a reflexology foot massage and a facial massage! Heavenly!

I always found the foot massage chart on the wall quite fascinating. It shows all the organs of the body and where they are represented on your foot. It was always interesting when my therapist found a sore spot. I would look at the foot massage chart to see which organ the point was related to. It’s something you can learn to do yourself at home, but let’s face it girls, self-massage is never the same as an hour with a masseur!

Lymphatic massage can be helpful if you have symptoms of breast cancer. Receiving a lymphatic massage stimulates the lymphatic system to drain fluid from the tissues, which helps filter out toxins. Women who have had breast cancer and have some lymph nodes removed often experience swelling in the arms, called edema. This is where the fluid collects and can cause discomfort. Receiving a lymphatic massage can help stimulate the flow of lymphatic fluid and can help decrease swelling. Make sure your masseuse is trained and experienced in this field before performing a lymphatic massage.

Business owners have portable massage chairs where they can go home to relax muscles or help with lymphatic drainage. It helps to de-stress and relax, stimulating the organs, body systems and blood flow. Find a therapist who has massage techniques that you like and feel comfortable with, then relax and enjoy!

And for those of you who really like this kind of thing, you can get a massage cushion to go on your chair and give yourself a mini massage every night while you relax. I admit to buying two of these, but they are not as good as a custom back massage, techniques that vary, depending on what is required at the time.

Ladies, if you’ve never experienced a massage, hint to someone you’d like one as a birthday present, like I did! I guarantee that you will enjoy the meditation time, the divine aromas of the oil and the pampering. For me and others, after a busy week, it’s a perfect happy ending.
