The 8th annual Celebration of Excellence, held by the College of Science, was a wonderful opportunity to honor outstanding student achievements and provide scholarships for two outstanding college seniors. Haley Meade, a junior from Pound, Virginia, who is pursuing a degree in Biochemistry, and Carl Wepking, a Blacksburg-based doctoral student, were both honored with this special scholarship.
In addition to these campus-wide scholarships, the College of Science also presents a handful of annual awards for distinguished student contributions to the university’s overall academic culture. During the event, faculty and staff had the chance to meet and discuss with students who have excelled in their academics and are making a difference on campus.
Aside from being a great way to recognize the accomplishments of students, a ceremony that celebrates excellence is a valuable tool for building a positive culture that attracts and retains top talent. By giving out scholarships to students who are demonstrating outstanding achievement, universities can encourage more of their student bodies to take risks and pursue the dreams that they have for their futures.
