Bet Uncut was one of the most famous adult-oriented television shows on cable television. The show garnered a cult following as the main premise of the videos shown were associated with overly sexualized images of women and cheap lyrics. Unknown rappers like Joker the Bailbondsman, Mighty Casey, and Precha are just a few of the rappers who gained notoriety thanks to the BET Uncut show. These memorable figures became favorites on the show based on their video or song content. The lower budget the video seemed to be, the more popular BET Uncut became many times bordering on comedy, as the quality and content of the music videos were so bad that it was more of a comedy than anything of value.
The BET Uncut show also had its share of controversy. There were many people who felt that the show degraded women and continually showed them in various situations that fostered disrespect for women. The controversy surrounding the show peaked in 2003, when hip hop star Nelly released BET Uncut’s number one video, Tip Drill. The Tip Drill video was created with the intention of airing on Uncut. The video accomplished this and I was very much looking forward to the intent it was originally created for.
Uncut BET was canceled in 2006, ending what many claimed to be BET’s most popular and controversial show. Despite BET Uncut being canceled, the show is still alive in cyberspace. People can watch the famous videos on sites like Youtube.
