School trips are one of the things school-age children look forward to from school. A school trip provides a place of learning that responds to both their natural inclination to know more about things and their short attention spans. School trips are also one of the ways to show children that learning is possible outside the classroom.
Another benefit of having field trips is that children will have the opportunity to see the practical application of what they have learned or are currently learning in class. Science and math concepts are put into action; how animals are cared for outside their natural habitat. Children will easily remember your lessons, especially if the trips are done in conjunction with a topic currently being discussed in class.
Students will also see firsthand how everything is connected, how their separate school subjects are just parts of the whole process of getting an education. For example, a visit to a museum will not only be about history, but also about science or geography. It can even be a topic for your English or writing class.
Not all students come from the same background. Some have less exposure to the arts and culture than others. This could be due to reasons like the parents don’t have the time or money to take them to these events or places, or the parents themselves don’t have the knowledge about these things.
