I know you know Bill Gates. He’s that rich guy who dropped out of Harvard, started Microsoft, and in a few years became a billionaire. Yeah sure, you’ve heard all that jazz before. But it’s true? Is Everything You Heard About Bill Gates Real? You may not think so when you’re done. He continues reading.

In case you don’t know, the most popular PR method for breaking frenzies and turning a new company into the most popular and valuable product is to twist the truth a bit, not lie obviously, but do it in a way that creates wonder and acceptance.

How do I mean?

If you have an interest in rap music, then you must have heard that the immensely popular rapper 50 cent was shot nine times. Well, he only got shot nine times in one incident! Definitely not nine different times. But who cares? That’s what the record company says about him, and rap fans enjoy it. It’s a similar theme to the Bill Gates story.

Here is the story that is currently making the rounds and all the lies exposed.

Bill Gates was your average Joe who loved computers and he came up with the bright idea that personal computers would soon be in demand all over the world and he decided to create software that would make the computer easier to use. (Lie #1)

He was admitted to Harvard to study law. But he’s bored with the whole legal thing and decides to quit. So he backs out of it and starts his own company. While at Harvard, he meets Paul Allen and together they start Microsoft. Then they soon find a venture capital firm that provides their seed money. (Lie #2)

They then develop a computer program that they licensed to IBM while retaining the license to sell the program to other companies. (Now, don’t you find it a little weird that Bill’s company got that deal? I mean, Microsoft wasn’t even a big enough company back then. Sure Bill was a brilliant guy, but then… (Lie #3)

Fast forward a few years; Bill creates the program that will show the jackpot for him, Windows 3.0. (Lie #4)

Wow, what an amazing classic American story, one from weed to grace. But the REAL TRUTH is that the King of Microsoft, perhaps one of the most brilliant businessmen, had a few breaks in life. He may be the second richest man in the world today, but he was in pretty good shape the day he was born! Let’s expose the lies right away.

Lie #1 EXPOSED:

You see, Bill wasn’t your average poor Joe, I have a butcher for a father. His father, Bill Gates Jr., was a wealthy and highly successful corporate lawyer long before Bill invented any software. But dad was nothing compared to mom! Bill’s mother, Mary Gates, was the granddaughter of J. W Maxwell, the founder of Seattle’s National City Bank in 1906. I also want you to know that in his early years he attended Lakeside School, one of the most prestigious and expensive private schools in the Pacific Northwest. That’s where he met and befriended Paul Allen, not at Harvard.

Lie #2 EXPOSED:

He picked the perfect parents, PARENTS WHO WERE VERY HAPPY TO PROVIDE HIM WITH START-UP FUNDS FOR HIS BUSINESS. With Bill’s rich experience and the connections provided by his parents, are you still surprised that Bill got the money he needed to start his business? He had access to millions of dollars in a trust set up by his great-grandfather the day he was born and a bank to boot!

Lie #3 EXPOSED:

Bill’s mother was a well-connected businesswoman and served on several boards as a director of First Interstate Bank and Pacific Northwest Bell. But she waits, it gets better (pun intended). Mary was also on the United Way board of directors, and who do you think served with her on that same board? John Opel, CEO of IBM! Now do you see how Bill and Microsoft got to that deal with IBM? Connections are really necessary for success, what do you think?

While serving on that board with the CEO of IBM, IBM chose Mary Gate’s son, Bill, to develop the operating system (called MS-DOS) for all of IBM’s personal computers. Now that’s a break you don’t get every day!

Lie #4 EXPOSED:

Bill never invented Windows 3.0, and neither did his load of computer programmers. That nifty piece of real art was invented by a common guy like you and me. Bill bought it for her for a whopping $50,000! I wonder if the mob was trying to charge him and he had to sell so fast and so low. By now he must be cursing himself because Bill is a billionaire just from Windows 3.0.

According to Microsoft legend, Bill dropped out of school to create Microsoft and change the world. Don’t you think maybe one of the reasons he was so quick to take that risk was that he didn’t care who would pay the bills?

Before you think I hate Bill, I don’t. On the contrary, I love the boy. With his charitable deeds all over the world, I can’t hate him, even if he wanted to. And don’t forget he gave me Windows and Office. Those two programs have made my life easier.

Whether you think that’s right or not, that’s your opinion.
