Fiesta Theme Party: Colorful fun with a Mexican twist!

Fiesta themed parties are easy and fun for all ages. Decorations should be bright and vivid colors, and it’s easy to find party supplies like plates, cups, napkins, and decorations in a wide variety of bright colors to mix and match. These can be found online (order ahead!) at party supply stores or department stores. It pays to plan ahead and send out invitations early, with a reminder a day or two before the party. Make sure all guests know exactly where the party will take place, give directions if necessary and when the party starts or ends, and arrange for guests to be picked up and taken home in advance to avoid potential confusion.

party menu

Homemade or prepared cheese dip, salsa, tortilla chips, mini tacos, make-your-own soft tacos with soft tortillas, taco meat, refried beans, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, and lettuce on serving plates arranged in a picnic table. Print labels on your computer to cover the glasses and serve cactus juice made with packaged lemon-lime soda, or bottled ginger ale with a few drops of green food coloring and/or lime sherbet. Most grocery store bakeries can make birthday cakes with a party theme, but if you’re having trouble finding one, you can always print a photo from your computer and let the bakery use it to make decorations for the cake. .

Party Party Activities and Party Favors

Two craft activities that become take-home party favors are letting each party guest decorate simple maracas and parasols. These can be found online or at party supply stores. They can be decorated with markers, sequins, glue, ribbon, ric-rac, etc.

Games for your party might include a bean and spoon relay, where guests are divided into teams of two each. One player scoops up a bean in a large plastic spoon, approaches his partner, and transfers the bean to his partner’s spoon; whoever successfully delivers the most beans in the least amount of time wins the game.

Lots of blaring Latin music and a conga line are always a hit, and full of laughs. Periodically throughout the party, just yell “Conga” and everyone should join the conga line.

Piñatas are traditional for Fiesta parties and don’t have to be filled with candy. You can choose to fill them with pens, pencils, markers, pads, small toys, or stickers. Basically any item you think they will enjoy. You can buy plain gift bags and print chiles, sombreros, and other Mexican graphics on your computer and glue them to the gift bags. Each guest will take their bag home with their goodies from the piñata and party craft activities.
